Honoring Old Traditions With A Brand New Eye
( 0 Komentar )

Happy Chinese New Year!!!

Being a Chinese is intricately tied with thousands year old traditions.
Traditions that become apparent especially during Chinese New Year celebration.
Red is "in" during these days. When you visit a Chinese family, you will definitely find sweet tasting food being served for you. There are also certain kinds of food that should be present during Chinese New Year Eve Dinner. Not to forget certain kinds of wording that you should say when you meet up with your relatives and friends.

Now, don't get me wrong. Ever since I was a little kid, I had very little respect for many traditions which I found to be overly complicated. I naturally scoffed at them and think that they are too old fashioned and belong to the older generations.

However, as I get more and more involved in the self-development and motivational industry as a business coach and also by delving more into my Chinese heritage, I actually have more respect for these centuries old tradition. It is so fascinating how people from the older days have understood the power of intention and the law of attraction -- things that more and more motivational speaker are preaching nowadays.

Take for example, the color of the festivities -- Red. Everyone is encouraged to wear red as this color have a bright and sunny aura that is expected to spread through spread through the year to create a bright and sunny future ahead. Older people also pass around red packets filled with money "Hong Bao" (in Indonesia, we call it "Ang Pao") to their children and unmarried relatives to remind them that fortune is coming. It is amazing isn't it, how the elderly have already harness the power of the subconscious mind?

You can also get a lot of meaning from the sweet food being served. Most often you will find "Nian Gao" (Sticky Cake). "Nian" means 'year' and "Gao" means 'cake' or can also means 'high'. "Nian Gao" simply implies for you to focus on a year where your fortunes gets higher and higher. Another one is the 'Thousand Layer Cake' which is also sweet. This cake symbolizes sweet fortune that comes in layers and on top of each other. Hmmm... talk about surrounding yourself with abundance.

So do remember the meanings scattered through out the festivities to implant it in your intention. As Anthony Robbins always said, "Your focus is your reality".

Whatever your traditions are, do take time to research and find out more things about them. The reasonings behind will definitely enrich your life and help you lead more abundant life. After all, who are we without our ancestors...
